Vintage Wah Mods and Repair
Welcome to the vintage wah mods and repair page. If you own a vintage Vox or Thomas Organ wah and it needs a little TLC or just some basic repairs in order to get it back up to the original working condition, or if you would like to give your vintage wah that extra bit of versatility that some of todays top of the line boutique wah pedals have you have come to the right place. Some things that can go wrong with a wah circuit include, Failing transistors Failing capacitors Loose jacks Bad solder joints Dirt and grime build up And of course the infamous scratchy pot While in most cases it is impossible to replace the original parts we use what is called work a like parts or cross reference modern equivalents. When repairing your pedal we will return all of the original parts with your pedal with an explanation of what work needed to be performed. Of course costs will vary depending on what repairs need to be done so please feel free to email mail me so we can discuss what needs to be done.

Would you like have a wider sweep? How about a growl control? Or maybe you would even like to have a midrange control. How about an output buffer so your pedal is compatible with fuzz? Would you like for your pedal to be true bypass? Would you like to be able to change the q position? We can even install an LED if you like. All of these things are possible here at Wilson Effects. We can add any of the mods above to your current pedal. Some of the mods can even be done without drilling any holes in your vintage enclosure. Here is what can be done without drilling any holes. Sweep mod Midrange mod Growl mod True bypass Output buffer If you are not so concerned about your enclosure all of the mods can be externally for easier access for on the fly tuning. We can also add a Q control to your pedal. Please note that this may require a total retrofit of your existing board, this means we may have to replace the original board with a new one to allow us enough room for all of the mods to be done. When we perform the mods we will return all of the original parts that have been modded with your newly modded pedal. Prices may vary depending on exactly what you would like done so please feel free to email me for a quote. Below you will find some sound samples and pictures of a Thomas Organ Wah that I have retro-fitted and performed a few mods on.

Thomas Organ with Sweep, Growl , Output Buffer, New Jacks, DC. Jack, New Pot and True Bypass. Existing hole was utilized for DC. Jack otherwise it would be on the opposite side of the pedal.

This is a picture of all of the original components on a new board. This helped to quiet the pedal down greatly.

This is a picture of the output buffer(notice the volume control), the new pot and true bypass switch.
The above soundclips were recorded with the wahs pictured below. Note that when turning the growl pot you with here a slight scratch in the pedal, this is normal as you are changing the bias of one of the transistors. They were direct recorded into a PC from a Marshall TSL 100 using a Wilson Effects Overdrive and an American Strat with Lindy Fralin pickups. If you should happen to have any questions about the mods and service please feel free to email me at the address below. |
